The Winter 2024 Community Conversations, presented by the Peter White Public Library in collaboration with Meredith & Robert Kulishek, focuses on the theme "Media Smart: Identifying Misinformation in the Information Age."

  • Wag the Dog (R) Film Screening: Watch the satirical film (1997) starring Dustin Hoffman & Robert De Niro, depicting the fabrication of a fictional war to divert public attention from a presidential scandal.

  • Media Literacy Conversation: Engage with Sue Ellen Christian from Western Michigan University in a dynamic discussion on media literacy principles, offering valuable insights and tools for analyzing media messages and enhancing online privacy.

  • Banking Fraud Awareness: Embers Credit Union staff provide on-site tips on protecting yourself from scams and banking fraud in today's environment of rampant deceit.

  • Julia: A Re-telling of Orwell’s 1984: Explore an imaginative retelling of Orwell’s 1984 from Julia's perspective. Copies of Sandra Newman's book are available for checkout.

  • Media Misinformation Panel: Join the League of Women Voters as they moderate a panel of local media representatives discussing the prevalence of misinformation and its impact on their work.

  • Killer Underwear Invasion: Pick up a free copy of Elise Gravel's resource, designed for children to spot fake news, disinformation, and conspiracy theories, available at the Youth Service desk while supplies last.
