The Peter White Public Library is partnering with the TV6 Canathon to help feed our hungry neighbors by serving as a collection point for food items to help stock our local food pantries from November 12 through December 5.
As an added incentive to donate, the library will be offering Food for Fines, a program that allows library users to resolve overdue fines or get a free DVD rental with the donation of non-perishable food items to the TV6 Canathon. Bring in one non-perishable food item to the library’s circulation desk in exchange for $1.00 in overdue fines or a film rental.
There is no limit to the dollar amount of fines that can be waived through Food for Fines. The program applies to overdue fines and DVD rentals only.  It cannot be used to resolve fees for lost or damaged materials.
The TV6 Canathon began in 1982 with 700 pounds of food collected.  Last year, the collection had grown to 157,300 pounds of food all of which was distributed in 10 Upper Michigan counties. The staff of the Peter White Public Library always looks forward to our continued participation in this event to let no one go hungry in our community.
Questions about the Food for Fines program can be directed to the library’s Circulation Desk at 228-9510.
