Adult Service Assistant -

Job Description

Application requirements:

A completed PWPL Application and resume are required; a cover letter is preferred.

The application preference deadline is April 30, 2025.

Starting pay:

$15.26/hr with annual step increases.

Benefits include:

PTO leave and paid holidays.

Hours of work:

Average weekly hours: 20–24/week. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide reference assistance to patrons of all ages and abilities in person, by phone, mail, e-mail, or chat under the general direction of the Adult Services Librarian, utilizing resources in a variety of formats.

  • Work regularly scheduled hours at the reference desk.

  • Provide technology troubleshooting and one-on-one computer instruction to patrons, including assistance with computers, software, databases, printers, and other devices. Adaptability to emerging technologies is essential.

  • Compile indexes, bibliographies, inventories, and other records to support various library collections.

  • Suggest reading and research materials to patrons and create monthly book displays.

  • Explain library policies and procedures to patrons in a positive and professional manner.

  • Meet U.S. Department of State requirements to become an authorized Passport Agent and process passport applications.

  • Record and maintain user statistics and other department records.

  • Create promotional materials such as posters, bookmarks, flyers, and press releases for library events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Three or more years of previous library experience preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience using library computer applications and Internet resources, including databases and online catalogs.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in all situations.

  • A proactive public service philosophy.
