Michael Letts presents U.P. Denizens and Debris. Michael holds a BFA in painting from Northern Michigan University and an MFA from Ohio University. He has been a Professor of Art Education at NMU since 2007. This exhibit is a reflection on the unique life lived by residents of the UP of Michigan. It explores the spaces between tradition and the virtual world in the Upper Peninsula, traditionally a wilder place, apart from the rest of the world. My work embraces this transitory life and can be seen as kind of a kind of rebel yell against the onslaught of technology. It shows life in the camps, diners, and forests of the UP.

Huron Mountain Club Gallery

Maarten Vermaat presents FOCUS. Maarten began taking classes at NMU in 2015 working toward a BFA. He is interested in the storytelling aspect of photography. The exhibit purpose is to display local people and their connections to their jobs and interests. In highlighting this connection, FOCUS demonstrates that it is possible for a person to take control of their attention and to focus on narrow tasks despite the constant barrage of distractions we all face.
