The Library’s participation in the community-wide series, WWI Remembered, begins tonight with the screening of La Grande Illusion.
Released in 1937, this classic black and white film by renowned French director Jean Renoir, is set during the first World War, and follows a group of French soldiers who  grapple with their own class differences after being captured and held in a World War I German prison camp.
The Community-wide program, World War I Remembered, is a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of U.S. involvement in World War I. “World War I Remembered” is made possible in part by a grant from Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
For up-coming events in the community-wide program, including the details on major exhibits at both the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and the Marquette Regional History Center, see the WWI Remembered website.
