Who Are the Friends?

Anyone can be a member of the Friends. They are people who are interested in taking an active role in Library improvements. Some volunteer on a regular basis, and some help with special fundraising events.

What Do the Friends of PWPL Do?
  • Provide financial support for Library programs and collections. This includes: film licenses, programming supplies, book/collection funds, and equipment. 
  • Volunteer for special events and programs.
  • Sponsor the printed Book Page recommendation guide.
  • Supports Summer and Winter Reading Programs for adults and children.
  • Coordinates Used Book & Media Sales and Special Sales.
  • Maintain the Friends Book Store.

Book Donations

Donated items that will enhance our collection may be added for circulation. (See our Collection Development Policy.) 

We sell items we don’t immediately need in one of our bi-annual sales or in our ongoing Friends Book Store on the Main Floor of the library.  

Up to two bags of donations per day may be dropped off at the PWPL Circulation Desk during library hours. Please do not put book donations in the book drops. 

What We Can Use
  • Books (hardcover or paperback) in good condition
  • Commercially published music on CD,  or video on DVD and Blu Ray in original packaging
  • Audio CD books 
  • Framed art prints
  • Rare or local books
What We Can Not Accept
  • Encyclopedias over 3 years
  • Non-commercially produced media
  • Reader’s Digest condensed books
  • Travel guides, textbooks, health, or technical books older than 5 years
  • Computer software or equipment
  • Damaged, defaced, stained, moldy, or smelly materials
  • Outdated materials, including VHS and cassette tapes

You may donate up to two bags of materials at the Circulation Desk during library hours.  Please do not place donations in book drops.  If you have a larger collection to donate, please contact Friends volunteer David White at (906) 263-0201. 

Items that are too dated or damaged to sell may get recycled.  Books can be recycled in Marquette County in your weekly pickup. Peter White Public Library has the right to refuse any donation.
