📚 Free to Read Week at Peter White Public Library — October 6–10, 2025

Celebrate the Freedom to Read!

Join Peter White Public Library in celebrating Free to Read Week — a time to explore, question, and honor the power of stories. Every activity is designed to remind us that access to ideas and diverse perspectives is a cornerstone of democracy and creativity. The freedom to read is the freedom to think for ourselves.

🔎 Free to Read: Scavenger Hunt

October 6–10, 2025 | Monday–Friday | All Ages

Each day, receive three clues that will lead you on a journey through the library to uncover the day’s Magic Number. Collect all five Magic Numbers to unlock the Free to Read Treasure Chest near the Circulation Desk for a prize—and a chance to win a grand prize gift certificate to Snowbound Books or Bromley’s Books!

🕵️‍♀️ Time to get your Miss Marple hats on!

đź’Ś Free to Read: Banned Book Blind Date

October 6–31, 2025 | Library Display

Looking for a new book to fall in love with? Go on a Banned Book Blind Date! Choose a wrapped book from the display and read its “dating profile” — including where and why it was banned or challenged — before checking it out and unwrapping your surprise match. You might just find your perfect literary partner.

🎨 Free to Read: Community Mural

October 6–31, 2025 | Lower Gallery Wall

Visit the lower level reception wall this month to view the community coloring project on display. Three book covers were broken into pieces and colored by many community members, reminding us that everyone should be free to read.

Special Events!

🎬 Free to Read: Dinner, Book, and a Movie — American Fiction & Erasure

Monday, October 6, 2025 | 5:30–8 p.m. | Community Room | Adults & Seniors

Bring your dinner and join a lively discussion of Percival Everett’s novel Erasure (copies available at PWPL), followed by a screening of American Fiction, the 2024 film adaptation. Explore how storytelling challenges assumptions and expands our understanding of the world.

🧩 Free to Read: Puzzle Day

Wednesday, October 8, 2025 | All Day | First & Second Floors | Adults, Seniors, Teens

Stop by for puzzling and snacks as part of PWPL’s celebration of reading and intellectual freedom. Multiple puzzle stations will be set up throughout the library—because putting the pieces together is what readers do best.

✨ The Freedom to Read Matters.

Books open minds, build empathy, and inspire action. When we protect the right to read, we protect the right to think. Celebrate your freedom with us at PWPL this October!
