Back to the Stacks: Amnesty Month 2026

Posted on

This April, Peter White Public Library will offer its first-ever amnesty program, Back to the Stacks. Patrons are encouraged to return PWPL-owned items that have been marked as lost, with no questions asked.

The purpose of this program is to encourage patrons with long-overdue items to return those materials and regain full use of the library. When items go unreturned for long periods, patrons may lose borrowing privileges, and the materials remain in limbo—unavailable for checkout while staff must decide whether to replace them or continue waiting for their return.

PWPL currently has more than 3,000 items—approximately 2% of our total collection—classified as Assumed Lost.

This April, we welcome existing, lapsed, and new community members Back to the Stacks as we celebrate the Joy that is Public Libraries.

If you have additional questions, please call 906-228-9510.
