Eligibility:
Due to the Youth Employment Standards Act, volunteer opportunities at PWPL are only open to students ages 14-18 with a valid work permit from the state of Michigan.
How to get started:
Before submitting any paperwork, please contact the department you wish to volunteer in to discuss current volunteer opportunities.
If you are interested in volunteering with Youth Services Department - contact Marissa. 906-226-4323
If you are interested in volunteering with Teen Department - contact Amanda. 906-226-4321
Required Documents to Volunteer:
All volunteers must submit:
- A completed Volunteer Form
- A valid Michigan Work Permit
How to get a work permit:
- Pickup work permit from PWPL
- Work permits require authorization from a school issuing officer. There are specific locations where this must be done, depending on the student’s situation:
- School main office where the student is enrolled (typically this is MSHS)
- Homeschool students - School district main office where the student lives, even if they are not enrolled in that school.
- When school is not in session – same as above, check with your local school as summer office hours will likely be reduced. (MSHS maintains a secretary during summer months, hours are more limited but are posted.)
